At Our Lady of Fatima students are learning and practicing our Religion in order to better understand their relationship with God and each other. The school utilizes the “Christ Our Life” religion series from Loyola Press in all grade levels.
In Literacy, students in early elementary utilize “Treasures Reading” to guide their learning. Students in upper grades read various novels at grade level throughout the school year as well as short stories and poems. At all grade levels our purpose is to increase student capacity to acquire information and knowledge, analyze and synthesize, draw conclusions and communicate clearly what has been learned.
In Math, students in early elementary use Saxon math to introduce grade level skills. In the middle school our curriculum allows students to master applying basic computation skills with integers, decimals and fractions, probability and statistics, measurement conversions, ratios and proportions, as well as investigating two-dimensional geometry. Throughout this program, we help students transition between the concrete subject of arithmetic to more abstract thinking required for algebra and geometry. Participants of our accelerated curriculum are identified through formal assessments and teacher recommendations. In this program, students cover the basic curriculum during their sixth and seventh grade followed by an Algebra 1 course their final year.
In Social Studies students learn about their role in their family, school community, and world around them. Students in 6th grade study ancient world history. 7th grade students study the Middle Ages and Renaissance and New Mexico history. 8th grade students study U.S. History and Government.
In Science students learn about the world around them through fun, guided hands-on activities and peer interactions and collaboration. Science incorporates math and written expression. Students in grades four through eight participate in science fair and put into practice the scientific method.
