Mr. Tom Gilbert, Mid-School Social Studies
I am new to Our Lady of Fatima School and very excited to be joining the faculty as the Mid-School Social Sciences teacher! I’m fulfilling a dream and a calling to teach after over thirty years in such varied occupations as radio broadcasting, personal history writing and Internet marketing. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and I’m a recent graduate of the CNM Alternative Teacher Licensure Program. The past two years have included substitute and student teaching, including a full year at a middle school. I’ve also taught 5th grade religious education for two years.
I grew up in an Air Force family of five and moved around the country a lot. I consider New Mexico home now because I’ve lived here twice for a combination of over twenty-two years. I’ve been married 26 years to my “Santa Fe” bride and we have two wonderful children. Last year my wife and I became first time grandparents to a beautiful boy.
I’m an avid reader, writer, history buff, baseball fan and runner. But my faith means more to me than anything. I love to help young people discover their talents and I believe we all learn together. One of my favorite sayings is, “Life is God’s gift to us; what we make of it is our gift to God.”
