Ms. Terri Klas, Mid-School Social Studies

klausHi, I am the new middle school social studies teacher. This is my first year as a teacher at Fatima, but this is not my first year in education. I have been actively involved in education for over eighteen years, as an assistant, substitute teacher for APS, and teacher for APS and teacher for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico, which includes three years of transfer credits from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. My major study was economics and minor study, studio and art history. I have another bachelor’s degree from the College of Santa Fe in elementary education, with honors. I also received my certification as a financial planner from the College of Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado.

I taught 4th, 5th, and 4/5 combination classes for six years with APS and moved to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 2002, where I taught social studies at Queen of Heaven for ten years, along with a number of additional responsibilities, including head teacher. I received a Teacher of the Year award during this time. I moved to Our Lady of Fatima in August of 2012.

I am a native of Albuquerque, but have lived in Denver, Newark, Dallas, and Portland. I have worked for AT&T Long Lines as a craftsperson, a local bank here in Albuquerque as teller, new accounts, and interim head teller, and bookkeeping for Supercuts. I have two beautiful grown daughters that are married with children, living and working here in Albuquerque. I have four grandchildren – three grandsons and one granddaughter.
