We know what we are…but know not what we may be.

Our Lady of Fatima is a wonderful place for everyone who has the opportunity to be one of the teachers or students.  As a Catholic school we strive to incorporate faith into everything we teach and model.  We study scripture and the life of Christ to guide our actions.  Students learn many different skill sets across curriculum from a variety of perspectives.  Teachers interact with a diverse population of terrific students.

Language arts, reading, and writing are taught as a literacy block.  Many genres are covered in a reading anthology.  The anthology is supplemented with fiction and nonfiction literature picked to teach specific reading strategies.  Vocabulary and spelling are taught in all curricular areas.

Additionally, writing is a large part of the English curriculum.  The art of writing is tackled using a wide variety of projects to teach the “Six Traits + One”.  Some tasks are as simple as writing a short essay.  Other, more complex projects include short research papers and technical writing for science.

Math begins with skill reviews.  Children work to master the skills necessary for success in multiplication, long division, fractions, decimals, simple algebra, and geometry. They also learn to apply mathematics to real life situations, science, social studies, and other content areas.

New MexicoandUnited Statesgeography and culture units are the core of the social studies curriculum.  Cultural studies of each region include art, language, religion, history, economics, diversity, and Catholic identity.  Maps, projects, and collaborative learning activities present opportunities for every student to shine.

Scientific inquiry and investigation are the backbone of the science program.  Students are encouraged to question, predict, experiment, and observe.  Following the scientific method, data is collected and recorded, and conclusions are drawn.  These practices instill life-long habits of logical thinking and analysis.

Students grow physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually during the course of fourth grade.  The faculty and staff are here to help them reach their goals and maximize their potentials.  OLF fourth grade students are wonderful young people.  It is a privilege to be a part of their journeys and to watch them grow and succeed in all of their endeavors.
