Fifth Grade
. . . where we work hard, enjoy each other’s company, and have a great time together!!
My goals for our fifth graders at Our Lady ofFatima are twofold: to teach and model the joy of living the Christian life ~ and to ensure that the important fundamentals of Reading Comprehension and skillful Creative Writing are mastered (before these kids make the leap into Mid-school).
We balance the absorption of the Language basics contained in our school Reading program, with the sharing of wonderful Newbury-award winning novels. Then, we pool ideas and come up with crafty, imaginative ways to enrich, or show off what we’ve learned! Results have varied from original detective journals and symbolic poetry mobiles, to “peach-fuzzy” dioramas and crock-pot soup! Later this quarter, our one-of-a-kind fifth graders will read biographies of famous Americans, and portray them in “live performances” for their schoolmates.
We also balance the absorption of vital scriptural and historical Catholic truths, with fun, old-fashioned acts of Christian kindness. We coordinated Fatima’s food-drive at Thanksgiving, and at Christmastime, made greeting cards for the young patients at UNM Children’s Hospital.
Exploring, creating, working together ~ the fifth grade at Our Lady of Fatima is really something special!
Come on in~ and see for yourself!
